Global Patterns of Coastal Cephalopod Diversity Under Climate Change

چکیده

Coastal marine ecosystems are currently being exposed to climate change at a much faster rate than many other ecosystems, with coastal species multiple stressors. Cephalopod mollusks play pivotal role in trophic webs, and most “keystone” due their influence on ecosystem dynamics. In this study, we characterized the global patterns of cephalopod diversity present, for first time, forecast potential changes richness, mean body size, assemblage composition (i.e., replacement, nestedness, combinations both) 161 under change, using an ensemble ecological niche models (ENMs) end century mitigation scenario. We have shown that, baseline period, is higher Central Indo-Pacific area that size follow temperature-size rule, larger animals occurring latitudes. The end-century projections habitat suitability show different picture, 96% predicted experience range contraction 15% completely losing environmental space. Nestedness projected be main effect compositional change. Maximum increase 44% pixels decrease 37%. Regarding fisheries, more favorable countries latitudes, although search refugia smaller tropical might potentially lead negative effects these areas, as measured by total capture (ton). While model has limitations, our findings reflect major climatic drivers highlight idea even though seem good candidates replace overexploited fish stocks near future, they may not space do so.

Biological diversity, ecology, and global climate change.

Worldwide climate change and loss of biodiversity are issues of global scope and importance that have recently become subjects of considerable public concern. Unlike classical public health issues and many environmental issues, their perceived threat lies in their potential to disrupt ecological functioning and stability rather than from any direct threat that may pose to human health. Over the...

Effects of global climate change on coastal salt marshes

A methodology combining ecological modelling with geographical information analysis and remote sensing was employed to determine the effects of sea-level rise in estuarine salt marshes, using the Tagus estuary (Portugal) as a case study. The development of salt marsh vegetation was simulated separately for C3 and C4 plants, using a combined biogeochemical and demographic model. This simulation,...

Global food security under climate change.

This article reviews the potential impacts of climate change on food security. It is found that of the four main elements of food security, i.e., availability, stability, utilization, and access, only the first is routinely addressed in simulation studies. To this end, published results indicate that the impacts of climate change are significant, however, with a wide projected range (between 5 ...

Exploring Climate Patterns Embedded in Global Climate Change Datasets

This paper aims to explore the analysis of climate patterns embedded in the Global Climate Data Sets generated by the Community Climate System Model (CCSM) for the 4 Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Report for Climate Change (IPCC). A Geographic Information Systems (GIS) approach is taken to examine spatiotemporal correlates among climate processes and to draw insights into their rela...
